Several days later, Sleet returned to castle Kallabakh, intent on finding Cirrus. As she strode through the castle she noticed reconstruction work going on in the east wing. Puzzled, she paused briefly to consider the area, then continued on. Sleet finally found the library where the king was reported to be, quickly opened the door and strode inside, only to find Og MacDonald seated behind a desk. Stopping abruptly, she asked “What are you doing here? Where is Cirrus?”
Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a figure in one of the corners of the room. “And WHAT”, she spat out, a look of great distaste coming across her face, “is HE doing lurking in the corner?!” Her fingers tensed, and then relaxed again as she sensed powerful wards set within the room. There was no love lost between herself and Kyrryn Stonewall; she distrusted him and in the current situation, she wanted to ready her defenses.
“Dame Sleet, be at ease! The new wards in this room are very unforgiving. I am king now, passed to me from Cirrus so he can go and play in the war. Kyrryn is here at his king’s request and is none of your concern.”
“Humph!” Sleet sniffed disdainfully. Her shields were ready to be raised at a moment’s notice. “This passage of office must have occurred very recently or I would have known of it. I fail to see WHY Cirrus would abandon his monarchy into your hands or…where can I find Cirrus?”
“Last I saw Cirrus he was portaling away with Nexus. You have been absent from Kallabakh for several days, and much has happened in a short time. Now, please have a seat so that I may talk with you about defending the kingdom. What aide will you offer?” Looking at Kyrryn, he says “please give us a minute.” Nodding, Kyrryn stands and begins walking out of the room. Never turning her back to him, Sleet waits until he is out of the room, and then she takes a seat.
“Just what is the current situation with Drakenfjord? Do we know for a fact that a merchant cartel from Kalladen is behind the treachery in that kingdom? What IS the current status between our two kingdoms?” Sleet asks.
“It is still conjecture at this point, but war has been declared on Kalladen. The defenses around Kallabakh have been strengthened. We have an undead fleet roaming the waters around the island. The city guard has been increased, and I have moved all family members of castle servants into the castle to prevent their being used as leverage. Our docks have also been attacked.”
“I noticed damage has been done to the east wing. Is Drakenfjord to blame for this also?” Sleet asked.
“No, no…you’ll have to credit that mischief to your squire”, Og told her. Closing her eyes and giving a big sigh, Sleet just says, “I see.” She stands up and begins pacing. “What can I do to aid in our kingdom’s defense?”
“Well, what you got?” Og asked.
